a giant rat with wings

orion pt.2

Lately I've been working on 'services' which can encompass 'work that is done for money' (mostly) like healing, transport, item upgraders, etc.

Most of the work is classic programatic stuff, but the services themselves having flavor depending on the NPC and their operation being dictated, narrated, emoted by the NPCs give a neat kind of 'life' to the game experience.

For example in Blightwood (western post-apocalyptic) you will heal slowly but can pay to heal fully - the healing act is narrated by the NPC performing the work:

 > Eric Evans examines the bandages, then gently pats the spot where the wound was.
 > Eric Evans: You'll be right as rain, Gregory.

In addition, any 'healer' in the room will take rounds on the room, mending patients if they see anyone in need (for free) which is a slower healing process and can also meaningfully describe that action. The gamey aspects of healing aren't set in stone yet, but the vibes are getting there.

Transport (in Blightwood's case buggies or horses or trains or something) will be the most interesting, I expect.
